Dr. Dong is a world-renowned immunologist focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying immune tolerance and immune responses. His research has led to new approaches of modulating the immune system in a variety of immune diseases and cancers. His discovery of Th17, its production of the inflammatory molecule IL17, and their central role in human diseases, earned Dr. Dong the AAI-BD Biosciences Investigator Award from The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) in 2009. He was the first Chinese scientist receiving this prestigious award.
